Don't believe the lies of bullies.
It is a battle.

As a child, my home was filled with poverty and abuse. While I understood now that both of my parents had a mental illness, at the time it was devastating. I initially had good self-esteem as a young child, but eventually after hearing negative things over and over, and being physically and emotionally abused, my positive self-esteem was destroyed. I didn’t think I had anything to offer the world. However, I wanted to work with children and teenagers who struggled through school and home life like I had.

At home, I was told I wasn’t intelligent and for a long time I believed that, but I pushed myself into higher education, hoping I would pass my courses. Much to my shock, I not only passed all my courses, I excelled in university. It took many years to overcome the negative things I had heard and believed about myself. It was a fight, a long battle, that I finally overcame. Bullies! Do not believe their lies!

Bullies are wounded and may also be believing lies!

How do you overcome this kind of hurdle? By being aware that those who bully, and abuse others, are wounded themselves. They also may be believing lies about themselves. This is the path to forgiveness.

To stop these lies from causing destruction in our lives, we need to start with self-love. You are special and loveable. You are a powerful soul if you choose to accept and believe it. What talents, traits and gifts do you have to share? What are you good at? What do you enjoy doing that others may be interested in? Are you loving and kind? Do you make others smile and laugh? Are you good with animals or kids? Are you a good singer or musician? Are you creative or artistic? Do you like to lead? Are you good with the elderly? A good teacher? Share that! Being successful in one area gives us the courage to try new things.

I am extremely grateful for my education. I became a primary/junior schoolteacher and have had the wonderful opportunity to work with children in the school and childcare systems. There are many roads to success in this world. Being loving, kind and helpful to others, taking care of family, pets, and animals, or being a volunteer or good friend are all beautiful accomplishments. Celebrate those victories. Sometimes they may seem minor, but they are not. We are all wishing for a better world. Every positive thing you do counts and makes a difference.

If you or your kids struggle with self-esteem, please know that you are not alone. We can overcome our obstacles in life with perseverance. Don’t listen to the negative words from others. Focus on love and light and you can win any battle.
